Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority has signed a cooperation agreement with ACWA Power, the Saudi energy leader and the largest private desalination company in the world, to establish the first independent water desalination plant in Sharjah.
His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, laid the foundation stone, marking the start of the project implementation in line with the highest standards. The Al Hamriyah plant will use reverse osmosis technology and is expected to produce around 272,000 cubic meters of desalinated water per day by Q2 2027. By Q3 2028, the plant will reach its full production capacity of 410,000 cubic meters of water daily, providing clean drinking water to 1.4 million people.
H.E. Abdullah Abdulrahman Al Shamsi, Director General of SEWA, emphasized that the Authority is executing a water strategy aimed at enhancing water security and meeting development needs with the highest quality standards. This agreement represents one of the largest water investments in the emirate, using the latest technology.
